Restorative Circles

A guide to describe what Restorative Circles are and how they work

Using circles to help students create strategies for studying and completing assignments on time

“The importance of completing homework assignments” will be one of the first heart-to hearts you will have with your students.  This circle activity helps students to identify upfront some of the challenges that may prevent them from completing homework on time and to develop strategies to meet those challenges head-on.

Purpose:
To help students share the challenges of completing homework and develop strategies for getting it done.

Circle activity:

  1. Ask students to write down in their journals three things that get in the way of completing assignments for homework.
  2. Ask students to write down three strategies that can help them complete their homework.
  3. Pair students up to share their responses.  Ask them to choose the top distraction and the top strategy for completing assignments.
  4. Have students share in the big circle.   Have the class to narrow down their responses to the top distraction and top solution for overcoming the distraction.
