Fall 2024: August 26th - December 14th

We offer both on-campus and online tutoring in American Sign Language.

How on-campus ASL tutoring works:

  • (New):On Mondays and Tuesdays, ASL tutoring is held in L201, the meeting room near the entrance to the Learning Commons, 2nd floor of Linganore Hall. On Wednesday and Thursday, it is held in L224 in the Tutoring & Writing Center, 2nd floor of Linganore Hall:
  • Drop-in hours:
    • ASL Level 1&2: Tuesday 12:00pm - 4:00pm and Thursday 9:00am - 11:00am
    • ASL Levels 3-5: Monday 12:00pm - 4:00pm and Wednesday 2:00pm - 4:00pm
  • No appointment needed.
  • Sessions are conducted in a group setting
  • Students will receive an email confirmation of their session by the end of that day from care@thinkingstorm.com. Those who need proof of session completion are responsible for forwarding this e-mail record of their session to their professor.

No in-person tutoring on Monday, Nov. 26th or Tuesday, Nov. 27th

How online ASL tutoring works:

  • Online tutoring is conducted through Zoom by appointment.
  • Appointments are required for online sessions; scheduling is done through Blackboard (see directions below).
  • Students can schedule one ASL session per course, per day. Appointments must be made at least 24 hours in advance.
  • There can be up to 5 students per hour session.
  • Students will receive an email confirmation of their session by the end of that day from care@thinkingstorm.com. Students who need proof of session completion are responsible for forwarding this e-mail confirmation to their professor.

How to Schedule/Join an ASL Online Session

To schedule an online ASL (American Sign Language) session:

Login to Blackboard

  • Click "Online Tutoring" in the left-hand menu of your course.
  • Click “Start Now” on the left FCC side of the page
  • Click “Book Now” under Schedule or Cancel a FCC Tutoring Appointment
  • Select your course, tutor, day and time you would like and click “Book”
  • You will receive an email confirming your appointment 

To join an online ASL (American Sign Language) session:

Login to Blackboard 

  • Click "Online Tutoring" in the left-hand menu of your course.

  • Click “Start Now” on the left FCC side of the page 
  • Click “Join Now” on the Join ASL or Spanish Group Tutoring Session (4th option down NOT the second option which is only for individual sessions not ASL)
  • When the tutor has opened the room, you will see the option to join appear
  • Click "Join" and enjoy your session

ASL Practice Opportunities: Fall 2024

These on-campus events count towards the 15 required practice hours that are required by ASL courses.

  • ASL Lunch at the Cougar Café
    • Every Wednesday 12:30am to 1:30pm
  • ASL Art Gallery Discussions at MCH Gallery, F100
    • Sept. 9th, Oct. 7, Nov. 4th, Dec. 9th at 12:30pm
