In-Person ASL Tutoring

We offer both on-campus and online tutoring in American Sign Language (ASL).

How in-person ASL tutoring works:

  • Drop-in, in-person to L224 (2nd floor of Linganore Hall in the Learning Commons)
    • Levels 1-2*:
      • Monday: 10:00-12:00 & 12:30-4:00

      • Tuesday 1:00-5:00 (1st week not until after 2:30 for training new tutor)

      • Wednesday 9:00-12:00 & 3:15-4:15

      • Thursday 10:00-12:00 & 12:30-3:00

      • Saturday 11:00-12:00

    • Levels 3-5*:

      • Wednesday 12:00-3:00

      • Thursday 3:00-4:00

    • Lunch/Dinner conversations (All Levels)

      • Tuesday 11:30-12:30 in the Cougar Grill

      • Thursday 4:30-5:30 in L224 BYO dinner (free coffee available)

Students are strongly encouraged to attend sessions associated with their current ASL course level.

Confirmation of Session Completion:

Students will receive an email confirmation of their online or in-person session by the end of that day from care@thinkingstorm.com. Those who need proof of session completion are responsible for forwarding this e-mail record of their session to their professor.

Online ASL Tutoring

How online ASL tutoring works:

  • Online tutoring is conducted through Zoom by appointment.
  • Appointments are required for online sessions; scheduling is done through Blackboard (see directions: Online Tutoring Instructions).
  • Students can schedule one ASL session per day. Appointments must be made at least 24 hours in advance.
  • There can be up to 5 students per hour session.
  • To see available times and to make an appointment, click “Online Tutoring” in your Blackboard Course’s menu.
  • Online Tutoring Schedule:
    • Levels 1-2*:
      • Tuesday/Wednesday 10:00-2:00

      • Monday/Tuesday/Thursday 4:00-7:00

    • Levels 3-5*:

      • Wednesday 4:00pm - 7:00pm

How to Schedule/Join an ASL Online Session

To schedule an online ASL (American Sign Language) session:

Login to Blackboard

  • Select "Online Tutoring" in the left-hand menu of your course.
  • Select “Start Now” under the FCC side of the page
  • Select “Book Now” under Schedule or Cancel a FCC Tutoring Appointment
  • Select your course, tutor, day and time you would like and click “Book”
  • You will receive an email confirming your appointment 

To join an online ASL (American Sign Language) session:

Login to Blackboard 

  • Select "Online Tutoring" in the left-hand menu of your course.

  • Select “Start Now” under "Frederick Community College"
  • Select “Join Now” on  Join ASL or Spanish Group Tutoring Session (4th option down NOT the second option which is only for individual sessions not ASL)
  • When the tutor has opened the room, you will see the option to join appear
  • Select "Join" and enjoy your session
