Information for ABE/GED students and instructors

GED Basics

  • In Maryland, anyone who completes the GED earns an official Maryland High School Diploma. The median salary for a Marylander with a High School Diploma is $8622 higher than someone without (USA Career Institute).
  • All scheduling is done through individual accounts at GED.com.
  • The first attempt at each section of the GED test is eligible for a discount. When checking out, learners should enter the code MDGED2175 to lower the cost of the test from $36 to $14.25.
    • The second attempt at each section is automatically discounted to $10. After that, prices alternate between $36 and $10.
  • Learners can attempt each section up to 3 times. After a third failed attempt at a section, learners must wait 60 days before being permitted to try again. During this time, learners can continue testing in other sections.
  • The Maryland 4th and Goal program is designed to help learners complete their final section of the GED. The MD Dept. of Labor can help cover the exam fees for someone who has completed 3 sections of the GED. To apply, learners should visit the MD Labor page for 4th and Goal.
  • After completing the GED, learners are eligible for one free printed copy of their Diploma. This is handled through GED.com
